Homemade Pizza Dough: Enjoy The Perfect Family Pizza Night With Homemade Pizza Dough
Homemade pizza dough is frugal, fun, and healthy since you are able to control the ingredients. As a pizza loving family, this recipe is tried and tested. My family enjoys homemade pizza better than take-out, so I’m confident that your family will also enjoy this one!
Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe
- 1 (1/4 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F.)
- Additional flour for hands and surface
Cooking Instructions :
In a small mixing bowl add yeast. Pour 1/2 cup hot water (that is at least 100-110 degrees F) over yeast. Stir with fork. Let set 10 minutes. Yeast will become creamy and bubbly. This is normal and expected. Add the remaining warm water to the yeast.
Add yeast mixture, salt, olive oil and flour in the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix ingredients at medium speed until smooth and elastic. Be sure that the ingredients are thoroughly combined. This should take about 15 minutes.
Place dough in a lightly greased bowl. The dough will be very sticky so a little grease is necessary. There is no need to over grease the bowl as this is just a holding step. Cover with greased plastic wrap. Let dough rise in a draft-free environment for 2-3 hours.
Now, place a fairly dense layer of flour on your working surface. You’ll want to coat your hands in flour before working with the dough as it will still be very sticky and you don;t want to waste time or dough by having to pick it off your hands! With floured hands gently push down dough, turn out onto a floured surface and roll it.
Divide dough into your desired portions. This depends on if you want to do individual pizzas or shared pizzas for the family. Form into round(s) balls and let stand 20 minutes. In this recipe the dough was divided into 6 equally portions to make 6 thin 10-12 inch pizzas.
Stretch dough gently into thin shape(s). Place on a baking sheet evenly sprinkled with cornmeal. Top with desired ingredients and cook! Prepare yourself for the best pizza dough crust you’ve ever had!
Note : If you don’t want to use all the doughs immediately you can put them inside a greased zip lock bag and put in your refrigerator. These will last about a week, so don’t wait too long! And once you’re ready to use the dough, make sure to put it first to room temperature before you start rolling and kneading it into a shape.
