Epsidoe 5: “Storm Rising”
Episode 4 ended with Larry enjoying a much-needed meal. He was able to catch four fish in one day. Nicole checks on her gill net and spots a mama bear and her two cubs across the way. Nicole kindly makes her presence known and mama bear stands on her hind legs in response — not a good sign!
Will these bears continue to make their presence known to Nicole and the remaining participants?

As episode 5 begins…
David has yet to catch any fish with his gill net and he wakes up with it completely tangled. He later decides to make a cane pole and catches a rock fish which was a much-needed meal for David.
Nicole discusses the encounter with the mama bear and her two cubs from episode 3 as she checks the gill net once more. She then hears splashing as she approaches the gill net, in which she finds a 2-foot-long salmon. Later, she puts the finishing touches on her shelter to prepare for the upcoming weather.
Justin builds a gym on the beach area. He discusses fitness and how important it is to him — how it keeps him motivated, and that motivation is an important part of survival.
Randy manages to keep fires going despite the loss of his ferro rod, which he lost a few episodes back. He begins to build a more permanent log type shelter for the upcoming weather.
As episode 5 continues…
A big storm hits Vancouver Island.
It’s day 13 and heavy winds and rain hit the island. The tide rushes in and the trees sway heavily back and forth. The remaining participants try their best to ride out the violent storm.
After the storm has calmed down some, Jose goes out to check his gill net, and as he is waist deep into the water he fights to untangle the net — but, he does find a salmon in the gill net. He then enjoys what he calls “the best meal” since he arrived at Vancouver Island.
The next morning the storm seems to have subsided, and Randy goes out to check the traps he had set for small game. He finds a mouse in one of them. He cooks his small find for his breakfast and calls it “the breakfast of champions.”
